It is great. Though it was shot in 1932, and the color is black and white, it touched me very much. Actor John Gilbert was so handsome but he died at age of 39, which is really a pity. He acted well, fully depicting the Grand Hotel thief well. Actress Greta Garbo was elegant.
Theme of the film is about people's desperation about money and making a living. Life then during financial crisis (1929-1933) must be hard.
It is a sad ending with a actor dying and actress cheated to traveling to Berlin. It is a bit ironic that another two minor actor and actress heading for Grand Hotel in Paris. Do they really love each other? What would happen after that 13,000 marks spent? It is an open ending. But well said, people come, people go. Nothing seems to happen in Grand Hotel.
